1935 - Braves lost 115 but "how bout" these names

The Babe Ruth Boston Braves of 1935 had quite a collection of names to go with their 115 losses.

Rabbit, Babe, Huck, Buck, Elbie, Flint and Pinky were  first names of note. Are you kidding me?
A Braves tip of the cap to Mr. Shanty Hogan (pictured above) and Fred Frankhouse. Nine names you are not likely to see today.

1933 - Red Sox Consider Move To Braves Field

Check out this priceless newspaper article from 1933. There were some rumblings in 1933 that the Red Sox approached the Braves about moving their American League club to Braves Field to take advantage of its higher seating capacity. Many other tomahawk chops in this one.....

58 Pitch Complete Game by Red Barrett

On August 10, 1944 Red Barrett of the Boston Braves only needed 58 pitches for his 2 hit complete game victory against the Reds at Crosley Field. The masterpiece took just 1 hour and 15 minutes to play and is the fastest night game in history. We have a better chance of seeing a pitcher win 512 games before we see another MLB game played in 75 minutes.

Tip your Braves hat to Bucky Walters of the Reds for the quick work. You have to love the names on that pre-game fight card - Red Barrett vs. Bucky Walters

Interesting nugget from Baseball Almanac:
The Sporting News box score and several other Associated Press articles about this particular game never made mention of the amazing record set by Red Barrett?

#96 Bill Voiselle, Boston Braves Pitcher

Bill Voiselle, a pitcher, who hurled for the Boston Braves from 1947 to 1949 wore number 96 for the Boston Braves. Voiselle was born in Greenwood, SC, but was raised in Ninety Six, SC. He obtained special permission from the Commissioner to wear a high number.

Here is Bill wearing #96......most likely the first pro athlete to wear a high number.
